Pioneer Open Recap

Congratulations to all of our athletes who qualified for and competed in the Pioneer Open this weekend! This was our most challenging competitive opportunity so far this season. Qualifying is hard, and the competition is even harder with a very strong contingent of Colorado's best swimmers attending.

In all, 18 Hurricanes swimmers made a great showing. They accounted for 64 personal best times. Elliot Somers, Emilie Coleman, Tallaby Riddle, Zander De Jager, and Ethan McLuskey combined for 14 top 8 finishes. Aspen Fisher (1650 free) and Tallaby Riddle (1650, 1000, and 500 Free) each achieved their first ever Sectional Championship Qualifying Times!*

The Pioneer Open was a great measuring stick for the middle of the season. It was exciting to see that we are right on track. The other coaches and I can't wait to see what the rest of the team is up for in two weeks in Loveland.

Below is a list of everyone who competed this weekend. Give them a high five if you see them!

Kileigh Ackerman Emilie Coleman Lisca De Jager
Zander De Jager Greyson Fearing Aspen Fisher
Ian Giesing Silas Jewell Ethan McLuskey
Maya Patel Ruby Pursley Isabella Reyes
Tallaby Riddle Harper Rowland Cannan Salmen
Duncan Salmen Bell Sleeper Elliot Somers

*The Sectional Championships is a challenging meet for the best 18 and Under swimmers in the Southwest United States. In order of difficulty, it is the first of a series of national level meets that give athletes a true measure of themselves against the best in the world: Sectionals, Futures, Junior Nationals, Senior Nationals, Olympic Trials. As an entry point into this level of competition, Sectional qualifying times are a huge milestone for any swimmer. Congrats to Aspen and Tallaby and let's keep on building our Sectional Team!
