Fall Season Information

Brian Pursley

Hello Hurricane's Families,

I hope everyone is happy settling into their new school routines! Our Basecamp and Fall Tune-up participants have done a great job staying sharp and learning some new skills this August. This weekend is the finale of both programs with the Castle 10k/5K/2.5K on Saturday, and our last Fall Tune-up session on Sunday. Keep up the good work Hurricanes!

We're fast approaching the beginning of our fall season and we have a lot of changes brewing to make the very best of our 2023-2024 Season!

Please take some time to consider all of these changes as we head into the fall. I can't wait to see all of our athletes back on deck! And I can't wait to kick off an exciting season of personal growth and athletic performance!

Thanks and Go Hurricanes!
Coach Brian

First Week Schedule
Categories 2, Category 3, and the Senior Group will start our regular winter practice schedule (available HERE ) on Tuesday, September 5. New Hurricanes are welcome to come to any Category 1 (preferred) or Category 2 (for swimmers with middle school conflicts) practices during the first week starting September 5th.

In order to accomodate a high number of new swimmers pre-registered to try out Category 1, we are asking all returning Category 1 swimmers to delay their first day back to Friday, September 8th. Thank you for giving us the space to welcome our new families!

New Families
If you are getting this email, you have probably already pre-registered for the Hurricanes and have seen the new family information available HERE. If not, please pre-register HERE

Families new and seasoned, if you know any other families interested in joining the Hurricanes, please feel free to pass these links along!

2023-2024 Group Structure
We're introducing some big changes to the way we will be operating Categories 4, 5, and Surge.

When it comes to workout schedules and fee structures, we will be operating as a single "Senior Group". In lieu of attendance expectations and performance requirements previously dictated by group membership, we will lean heavily into the individual goals of each athlete to assign a personalized training plan and set of expectations.

You can see the updated practice schedule HERE. Starting this fall, all "Senior" practices will be open to any Senior athlete. Coach Jordan and Coach Brian will work together to cover all of the practices. Attendance expectations will be dictated by each athlete's own schedule, training plan, and individual aspirations.

The only differentiating factor in dues among the Senior group will be access to the dryland program, which will be included in the "Senior Premium" option. Our dedicated dryland program is already proving to be wildly successful for the athletes who had the chance to participate this summer, and we hope as many Senior athletes as possible will join us this fall!

The success of this year's "Senior Group" strategy is contingent on nailing down the right individual plan for each athlete. Coach Jordan and I plan to coordinate with one another throughout the year to identify and execute the right path for every one of our swimmers.

The first step in this process will be September goal meetings. We ask that each senior athlete sign up and diligently prepare for a goal meeting HERE

We would like to informally give our oldest athletes early access to goal meetings... So when you book a meeting, please consider the timing: We are asking High School Juniors and Seniors to consider meetings in early September, while Middle Schoolers and Freshman look for meetings towards the end of the month.

2023-2024 Membership Dues Structure
Along with the changes to our group structure come a few changes to our membership dues structure, most of which are dedicated to lowering the barrier to entry into our program.

First, we have replaced the "Annual Family Fee" with a lower annual fee per athlete, including a multi-child discount.

For Category 1, we have lowered the annual fee all the way to $100.00 and switched from a 9 month to an 11 month billing cycle. This affords maximum flexibility to our youngest swimmers who may or may not yet be dedicated to a year-round swimming regimen.

For Categories 2 and above, we have lowered the annual fee to $300.00, with a $200.00 discount for the second child, and no annual fee for the third child and beyond. This means no family will pay an annual fee greater than $400.00. Categories 2 and above will remain on a 9 month billing cycle.

All monthly fees have risen slightly to account for the lower annual fees.

Although our costs have risen substantially in the past few years, we are absolutely committed to keeping swimming in the mountains as affordable as possible. For the time being, we have managed to honor that commitment. This membership due structure represents only a 2.9% total (not annual) increase in dues over the past 2 years.

Group Assignments
Because of extensive group move-ups this summer, we only have a small number of group move-ups planned as we enter the winter season. We haven spoken to a number of families, but still have a few more to discuss group move ups with. We will do so by early next week. If you are a returning swimmer, haven't heard from us by Tuesday of next week, and still are uncertain about your group for the fall, please reach out to me to discuss.
