Winter 2023-2024 Coaching Updates

Brian Pursley

Hello Hurricanes familiies,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of Jeff Cook's resignation from his role as a Coach for the Hurricanes. Over the past decade, Jeff's dedication has been unwavering as he tirelessly made his way up the hill after his high school teaching duties to guide our Category 1 swimmers. Jeff's leadership has established Category 1 as a remarkable platform for budding swimmers to launch, and it's worth noting that the majority of our current team members embarked on their swimming careers under his mentorship. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Jeff for his long standing tcommitment to the Hurricanes and all of his enduring contributions.

As big a loss as Jeff's departure is, we still have an outstanding coaching plan in place for this Fall and Winter. This is how the coaching responsibilities will look moving forward:

Category 1

Coach Brian will be in charge of the program design and will be the lead coach every day. Coach Lori and Coach Aspen will assist with regular practices and kickstarts. With plenty of staff attention and the entire pool available, we expect Category 1 to thrive this season!

Category 2 and 3

Coach Jordan will be in charge of the program design and will be the lead coach of about 2/3 of the practices. Coach Brian will be the lead coach on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and Coach Nissa will be the lead coach of Category 2 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This will be the first time Coach Nissa has had a lead role with the Hurricanes, and we are very excited to finally realize the benefits of the unique leadership talents that she brings to our staff.

Senior Group

Coach Brian will be in charge of the program design and will be the lead coach of about 2/3 of the practices. Coach Jordan will be the lead coach of the rest. Coach Brian will continue to run the dryland program, with the exception of Saturday mornings, which will be lead and designed by Coach Jordan.

Under this plan, I will have the opportunity to coach every swimmer on the team at least twice per week, Coach Jordan gets the same opportunity with everyone on the team except for Category 1. Category 2 families will quickly see the benefits of a new perspective coming from Coach Nissa.

Losing an integral coach like Jeff is hard, but I would like to deeply thank our staff for the flexibility and enthusiasm that allowed us to come up with a great coaching plan anyway. Our coaches are poised to make this a great season for every Hurricane!

Thanks and go Hurricanes!

Coach Brian
